The Mission
At Three Roots Chiropractic, the mission is simple: to help you get back to YOUR nature.
True health isn’t built by suppressing symptoms—it’s cultivated by restoring alignment and supporting the systems that keep you thriving. By re-establishing proper form and function and clearing metabolic obstacles, the body is free to do what it was designed to do: heal, adapt, and move with strength and ease. When we stop chasing symptoms and start supporting biology, health becomes the natural result.

The Man
Hi! I’m Dr. Dan, your friendly neighborhood chiropractor. I was lucky enough to be born to a loving family and raised on Vancouver Island. I’ve been fascinated with biology— the study of life—for as long as I can remember. Drawn to nature and athletics early on, I pursued health sciences with passion:
2015 – Bachelor of Athletic & Exercise Therapy, Camosun College, Victoria, BC
2017 – Bachelor of Human Biology, University of Western States, Portland, OR 2018 – Doctor of Chiropractic, University of Western States, Portland, OR
I’m a proud member of the BC Chiropractic Association, Canadian Chiropractic Association, and licensed by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia.
When it comes to care, I’ve got your back—literally. I’m trained to assess and treat a wide range of spinal complaints, most commonly addressing neck pain, back pain, and headaches. I also specialize in full-spine decompression, helping restore alignment, movement, balance, and function while reducing pressure on the spine and nervous system. Beyond structure, I’m passionate about supporting the body’s internal engine—its metabolic health. Because when your metabolism and mitochondria are working efficiently, your spine, muscles, and nervous system can truly perform the way they were designed to.
Beyond the clinic, I find my flow state when I’m outdoors with a dog (or seven), creating with my mind and hands, or playing the piano.
The Beast
Every clinic needs a little personality—and at Three Roots you may meet the resident guardian: Rocko.
Rocko is a 6-year-old male shepherd mix from the mountains of the Western Kootenays, where he learned his two favorite skills: guard duty and snack negotiation. He’s the proud founding and sole member of the neighborhood watch and works part time for the fun police. During the initial screening process (a.k.a. your arrival), he can be a little high-energy—but don’t take it personally. Treats tend to smooth over the formalities and restore diplomatic relations almost instantly.
For everyone’s comfort, Rocko has taken an oath by way of fence to remain at least two meters away from anyone who’d rather admire him from afar. Coincidentally, that’s the recommended safe distance for both viruses and dogs. If you have severe allergies or canine phobias, just let me know ahead of time and I’ll happily sequester him in another spot during your visit.
Masks can be provided upon request.
The Problem
Modern life has created what could be called a metabolic–spinal crisis — a perfect storm of inactivity, poor posture, inefficient movement, and metabolic imbalance.
Long hours spent sitting, chronic stress, and nutrient-poor diets have quietly eroded the foundation of human health. The result is widespread spinal compression, loss of mobility, and declining energy — an epidemic of stiffness and fatigue that touches nearly everyone in some form.
Most adults will experience back pain: lifetime prevalence estimates for low back pain are as high as 84% (NCBI).
Globally, more than 619 million people were living with low back pain in 2020, making it the leading cause of years lived with disability worldwide (PMC).
Sedentary lifestyles and poor posture accelerate spinal compression, disc degeneration, and nerve irritation. Combined with metabolic triggers — such as excess weight, chronic inflammation, and reduced mitochondrial efficiency — the risk compounds.
Metabolic dysfunction is nearly universal: research shows that over 93% of adults have at least one marker of metabolic dysfunction, including elevated blood sugar, blood pressure, triglycerides, or waist circumference (CDC/NHANES). This reflects a system-wide imbalance that slows recovery, weakens tissue repair, and amplifies pain sensitivity.
Back pain isn’t just a nuisance: it’s closely linked to reduced physical and mental well-being. Those affected report higher rates of poor self-rated health, greater healthcare usage, and more missed workdays (Georgetown University Health Policy Institute).
In the working-age population, the cumulative burden means many people live with stiffness, limited movement, and repeated flare-ups — not just a single “bad day,” but a recurring issue that quietly chips away at quality of life.
What this means for you: tightness, stiffness, reduced spinal space, and compression don’t simply go away.
Without corrective movement, decompression, and renewal of spinal mechanics, these forces accumulate — limiting your mobility, increasing nerve stress, and making even everyday tasks harder.
At my clinic in Colwood, I focus on reversing this trend. Rather than chasing pain, I address the root causes: spinal compression, metabolic fatigue, and movement dysfunction.
The result? A hands-on, holistic spine strategy that helps reset your spine, restore mobility, and support your body’s natural ability to heal.
The Treatment
Manual Full-Spine Decompression
Is your back feeling tight and stiff? Ring-ding, ring-ding — that’s your spine calling.
At Three Roots Chiropractic, I offer powerful, hands-on (manual) full-spine decompression — a true spinal reset that releases tension and restores space throughout the entire column. Whether it’s long days at the desk, years of repetitive strain, or that deep postural fatigue, I use precise decompression and corrective movement to unlock mobility, improve alignment, and build long-term resilience.
Soft Tissue Therapy
When muscles tighten, fascia stiffens, and movement starts to feel restricted, it’s time to restore flow where things have locked down. My soft tissue therapy combines instrument-assisted release, percussion massage, traditional hands-on techniques, and muscle energy work to break through restriction and improve circulation. These methods target the root of muscular tension — not just the surface — helping reduce pain, enhance flexibility, and prepare your body for lasting structural change. Whether it’s stubborn knots, chronic strain, or postural tightness, this focused approach helps your tissues move, breathe, and recover the way they were designed to.
Stability Training
Real strength starts with control. At Three Roots, my stability training focuses on rebuilding the deep support systems that keep your spine and joints balanced under load. Through targeted activation, balance drills, and corrective movement, we retrain your body to move with precision and power — not compensation. This is where short-term relief becomes lasting change. Whether you’re recovering from injury, improving posture, or preventing future flare-ups, stability work reconnects you to your foundation — helping every adjustment and decompression session hold stronger, longer.
The Drive
My path to health hasn’t been smooth—it’s been a journey.
Growing up, I faced chronic ear infections, asthma, frequent colds and flu, anxiety, depression, recurring headaches, neck, and back strains. In my early 20s, a few years into my formal healthcare education, I woke up one day with no central vision in my right eye. Multiple specialists, endless tests, and a vague diagnosis of “Idiopathic Retinopathy” left me with more questions than answers.
For every one of those ills, the only solutions offered were more pills—something to dull the pain, kill the infection, quiet the inflammation, or mask the symptoms. But no one ever asked me about the basics: what I was eating, if I was sleeping, or how much I was moving. I came to understand that these aren’t small details; they’re the foundation of health. Healing doesn’t come from the outside in—it happens from within, at the cellular level.
Over the next decade, I studied, experimented, failed, and learned. My health got worse before it got better—autoimmune flares; psoriasis, joint pain, gut issues and more vision loss—but ultimately, through failure, I discovered how to support my biology: by optimizing my metabolic health and supporting my mitochondrial function I finally got out of my body’s way and lined back up with my natural state, with my nature.
Today, I live free of chronic inflammation. My physical and mental health are stronger than they’ve ever been—but I also carry the reminder that some damage can’t be undone. The central vision in my right eye never returned. The good news is that most of us have time to course-correct long before lasting harm takes hold, which is why recognizing and addressing metabolic disruptions early is so important.
For me, staying aligned with my nature isn’t complicated—it’s about living in rhythm with the essentials that keep my biology thriving:
A biologically/ancestrally appropriate low-carbohydrate, seasonal and whole-food diet
Fasting—regular intermittent fasting and periodic extended fasts
Movement—daily hikes or walks, with weekly bursts of strength training or physical labor
Quality sleep—consistent mornings and nights to honor my circadian rhythm
Contact—with nature (sun, air, earth, water), family, and friends
The path back to health looks different for everyone. What steps could help you reconnect with your nature?
I believe all living beings are primed to thrive when they live in alignment with their nature. Disease is what happens when we drift too far away. Health, on the other hand, is not complicated or mysterious—it’s the natural state when we support our biology.
This is my drive. This is why I built Three Roots Chiropractic: to help others reclaim their nature and rediscover what true health feels like.
The Logo
At first glance, it may look like a stylized tree—but every element of this logo was chosen with intention.
The 33 points woven into the design represent the 33 vertebral segments that form the human spine. The three roots reflect the foundations of metabolic health—nourishing food, restorative sleep, and balanced movement. Together, they sustain the strength, adaptability, and vitality that define human wellness.
At the very center lies a small, curious shape. Is it an eye? A seed? A bean? No—it’s a mitochondrion! These tiny yet powerful structures live inside nearly every cell, converting what you eat and breathe into the energy that fuels life itself. But mitochondria do more than produce energy—they help control inflammation, communicate with your microbiome, and orchestrate the repair and resilience of your body at every level. They’re at the center of my logo because they are at the center of you. Metabolism—the sum of everything your body does to create and use energy—is, in many ways, the heartbeat of health.
During my formal studies, I learned what mitochondria are and how they function—but not how profoundly they shape our overall wellbeing. The truth is, your mitochondria already know what to do; they just need the right environment to thrive. When we remove the obstacles that burden them—poor nutrition, chronic stress, disrupted sleep—they do what they were designed to do: power healing, restore balance, and fuel life itself.
The branching antlers pay tribute to our ancestral hunter-gatherer heritage—a reflection of growth, balance, and our deep connection to the natural world. Flowing downward, the central root symbolizes the spinal cord—our body’s information highway—carrying the messages that unify mind and body. Together, they signify the harmony between ancient strength and the living intelligence that continues to flow through every human being.
This logo is more than an image to me—it’s a reminder that vitality begins deep within, from the cell to the spine, and radiates outward into every part of life.
